The roles and impact of public and private fire/explosion investigators policies and procedures regarding fire/explosion investigations
The S.C. Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators (SCIAAI) is proud to announce the 2024 3rd Quarter Training Seminar. This quarterly training will be a discussion of the roles and impact of public and private fire/explosion investigators policies and procedures regarding fire/explosion investigations from the initial origin and cause investigation, evidence collection, laboratory examination and prosecution/subrogation. The goal of a fire/explosion investigation, shared by both public and private fire investigators, is to determine the area/point of origin of the fire/explosion and the circumstances, conditions, or agencies that brought about or resulted in the fire or explosion.
The policies and procedures of both public and private fire/explosion investigators will impact the outcome of the fire/explosion investigation. We will explore the capabilities of private laboratories and engineering firms as it relates to fire/explosion investigations and how it may benefit both public and private fire/explosion investigators. We will also discuss how various policies and procedures impact the fire/explosion investigation. NFPA 1033 “Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigator”, 2022 edition and NFPA 921 “Guide for Fire and Explosion Investigations”, 2024 edition, as well as case studies will be utilized in this presentation.
Your instructors will be members of Accident Reconstruction Analysis, PLLC, a forensic engineering firm in Raleigh, North Carolina, to include engineer(s) and origin and cause expert(s) with experience in public and/or private fire investigations. The origin and cause expert(s) will include Jeff Key and/or Ken Andrews, both IAAI-CFIs and retired Special Agents/CFIs with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
This training is scheduled for a minimum of 8 contact hours. Furthermore, testing options will be discussed at the training event. There will be a $35 charge for members, and the nonmember attendance fee is $100.
