The S.C. Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators (SCIAAI) is proud to announce the 2020 vehicle fire training seminar. The program topics include NFPA 921, 2017 Edition, Chapter 27, and the approach for investigating vehicle fires. The instructors, will be IAAI President, Barry M. Grimm, and IAAI Board of Directors Member, Joseph S. Herzberg. This course is designed to benefit the beginner and seasoned investigators from start to finish. This course will cover the 16 hours of knowledge needed to towards the IAAI vehicle endorsement.

PREREQUISITES:  Students will be required to take and complete four (4) CFItrainer.net courses prior to the seminar.  This will better prepare the student for the subject matter that will be presented during the course.  Below are the four (4) required courses that the student will need to have at the beginning of the seminar:

  1. Fire Investigator Scene Safety
  2. Investigating Motor Vehicle Fires
  3. Motor Vehicles: The Engine and the Ignition, Electrical, and Fuel Systems
  4. Motor Vehicles: Transmission, Exhaust, Brake, and Accessory Systems

The seminar will cover 16 hours of training related to basic information, procedures, and will add students with the skills of being able to conduct complete and accurate examination of motor vehicle fires. Information gained from this course will be related to NFPA 1033 and NFPA 921. In addition, participants will increase their knowledge of researching the history of vehicles, current and passed recalls, and types of systems within the modern-day vehicles. Students will also learn how social media can affect their investigations and how this information should be considered as part of their investigations. This will be a hands-on class with live burns. Everyone, must have their safety equipment to include: gloves, boots, eye protection, and respirators minimum of a M95 respirator.

            During the lecture portion of this course, students along with the instructors will discuss actual cases studies related to current types of vehicles, manufacturing styles, and how the mechanics of the vehicles affect fire dynamics.

                        This training is scheduled for a minimum of 16 contact hours. Testing options will be discussed at the training event. Member attendance is free, and non-member attendance fee is $100. Non-members can attend at member pricing with a completed chapter application and $25.00 application fee. Lunch is the responsibility of the student.
